Broughty Ferry is a town located on the east coast of Scotland in the county of Angus. It is situated on the north bank of the River Tay, approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of Dundee city centre. The town had a population of 18,340 in 2011.
Broughty Ferry is a popular tourist destination due to its sandy beaches, Victorian architecture and its castle. The town also has a number of parks and gardens.
The name Broughty Ferry is thought to come from the Gaelic for "town on the bank of the stream". The first recorded mention of the town was in 1415 when it was known as Bruchtisferrie.
Broughty Ferry was originally a fishing village and was granted royal burgh status in 1511 by James IV. It became a prosperous town in the 19th century due to the growth of the jute industry.
Today, Broughty Ferry is a thriving community with a wide range of shops, restaurants and bars. There are also regular events and festivals held throughout the year.
