About Manea in Cambridgeshire
Manea is a small town in the Fenland district of Cambridgeshire, England. It is situated on the River Nene, approximately 10 miles (16 km) east of Peterborough. The town has a population of 3,420 (2011 census).
Manea is an ancient settlement, with evidence of human occupation dating back to the Bronze Age. The town was listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 as having a population of just over 100.
The town's name is thought to derive from the Old English 'manig', meaning 'many', and refers to the large number of people who once lived here.
Manea was once an important market town, and its market square is still home to a weekly market every Thursday. The town also has a number of pubs, shops and restaurants.
Manea is twinned with the French town of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.
