Stalybridge is a town in Greater Manchester, England, 8 miles east of Manchester. Historically part of Cheshire, it is on the River Tame, in the Tame Valley, and has a population of 23,731.

The town dates back to 1220 when a market charter was granted. It is recorded as "Stavelegh" in 1254 and "Stalye in a 1285. The name "Stalybridge" first appears in 1547.

The town's early history was dominated by the textile industry and it was an important mill town during the Industrial Revolution. The town's economy is now largely based on the service sector.

Stalybridge is twinned with the French town of La Bassée.
