About Maidstone in Kent

Maidstone is a town in Kent, England, on the River Medway. It is the county town of Kent and the principal settlement of the borough of Maidstone. The town is 35 miles (56 km) southeast of London, and just under 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Maidstone. The town is located on the M20 motorway, and has a railway station on the mainline from London to Ashford and Dover. There are direct high-speed rail links to London St Pancras International, Ebbsfleet International and Ashford International.

Maidstone is the largest town in Kent with a population of around 113,137 people (2011 census). The town has a long history dating back to the Roman times when it was known as Durolevum. During the Middle Ages it was an important market town and a centre for pilgrimage. Today it is a thriving commercial centre with a wide range of shops, businesses and services. The town also has a number of tourist attractions including Leeds Castle, the River Medway and the Kent County Showground.
