About Oadby in Leicestershire

Oadby is a town in the English county of Leicestershire. It is situated on the River Soar and in the 2011 census had a population of 22,930, making it the second largest town in the county. Oadby is twinned with the town of Lutterbach in France.

The town has a long history dating back to the Roman period. It was an important market town in the medieval period and was granted a charter by King John in 1207. The charter allowed for a weekly market and a yearly fair. The fair was held on the feast of St James and was one of the largest in England, attracting visitors from all over the country.

In more recent times, Oadby has become a commuter town for Leicester and has seen a significant amount of new housing developments. The town has a number of primary and secondary schools, as well as a sixth form college. There are also several parks and open spaces, including Brocks Hill Country Park and Watermead Country Park.
